I know it sounds weird, but trust me, IT WORKS! This is the second best, and let me add, easiest way to save water AND money.
So what exactly is a DIY Toilet Water Saver?
The whole idea is that the more water you displace from the toilet tank, the more water you will save and thus, the more money you will get to keep! An average flush uses 3.5-5 L of water EVERY flush. And studies have shown that realistically we only need to use 1.5-2L of water to get our 'risky business' down the hole. Let's do the math; that's almost 3L too much that we are wasting with EVERY flush!
So, how can you help save our valuable water?
All you do is add a container to the tank of your toilet. Fill the container with rocks or sand to ensure it sits on the bottom of the tank and doesn't float. The bigger the container, the more water you'll displace BUT make sure that the container isn't so big that it messes with the function of all those doo-dads inside the tank. Put the top back on, and Ta Da, you've just started saving the planet!
I've included a link to the Youtube video so that, if you're like me and suck at following directions, you'll come out on top!
Happy Planet Saving!
